myHappymind

At Danson we use myHappymind program to support the children's mental health and wellbeing. myHappymind is an award winning program dedicated to building a positive mental well-being culture in which children can build resilience, self-esteem and character. All the concepts that are taught are based on the latest research and are grounded in neuroscience and positive psychology. myHappymind is commissioned by the NHS. We are proud to announce we are now a myHappymind Bronze Accredited school! This means that as a school we consider the mental health and well-being of our children as one of our top priorities. We have created a whole school culture that helps build our children’s resilience, confidence and self-esteem, as well as teaching them how to self-regulate in stressful times.

This Accreditation badge has been awarded thanks to all the effort our staff, children, parents and governors have put in to bring the lessons of myHappymind to life all around our school.

Overview

myHappymind is delivered by class teachers across the whole school in weekly sessions and consists of 5 modules:

Meet Your Brain - Understanding how your brain works and how to ensure we look after it so that we can manage our emotions and be at our best. Growth mindset is a key part of this too.

Celebrate - Understanding your unique Character Strengths and learning to celebrate them. This is a fantastic module for building self-esteem.

Appreciate - Understanding why gratitude matters and how you can develop gratitude as a habit. Gratitude is key to well-being and resilience and we're all about making it a lifelong strategy!

Relate -Understanding why positive relationships matter and how to build them. We're focussed on the building blocks of good relationships and friendships.

Engage - Understanding how to set meaningful goals that matter and how to stay resilient in times of challenge. This module is all about building self-esteem and resilience too.

Pupil Voice

Here's what our children think about myHappymind!

Year 4 Pupil

I like the way it teaches you how your emotions affect your brain and then it helps you change your emotions when you need to.

Year 5 Pupil

I like that you recap what you have already learned in previous lesson and then learn something new and that you have a journal to store your learning and your thoughts.

Year 1 Pupil

I like learning about my brain and team HAP and all the other characters.

Year 2 Pupil

What I like best about myHappymind is Happy breathing because it helps you when you are worried. I used it when I was worrying about my first swimming lesson and it was in the deep end. But you might use it for all sorts of things, when you are sad or angry or excited because it helps you calm down. So it helps you with all sort of bad feeling because everything gets calmer and happier with Happy Breathing.
